I have been wanting to check out Beauty & Essex when it first opened in NYC, unfortunately I never had a chance to make it to that location. However, I finally had the opportunity to hit up the L.A./Hollywood location with some friends for brunch (it appears they no longer serve brunch, sad because I loved the vibe and the DJ was on point). Anyway, I oversaw picking the location and knew that it would probably not fit into everyone’s budget, so I agreed to pay extra to ensure that we could eat and drink without money being a concern. This restaurant is not cheap so if you decide to give it a try keep that in mind!
We all arrived around the same time for our 2 pm reservation and were seated right away. Once we settled down at the table our server checked in with us for drinks and did the rundown of how the restaurant works. Everything is served family style, what that means is that the portions will be exact to the amount of people in your party to share, in our case it was four of us.
We tried a variety of dishes, I personally loved the banh mi sliders, we ordered a second round of these little guys. I also enjoyed the oysters and tuna poke wonton tacos. I would do a hard pass on the short rib huevos rancheros (still on the brunch menu in NYC), they were a bit bland in my opinion. I am allergic to lobster, but my friends ordered the lobster rolls (no longer on the menu), they said those were pretty good as well. Check out our food below.
For brunch I always order a Bloody Mary and this one was excellent! I don't think they serve this for dinner, but if you see one with bacon at another restaurant order it! I also had a drink called Green with Envy, it was spicy and delicious...mmm!
This was a long overdue review as B&E no longer serves brunch in the L.A./Hollywood location. I will definitely be back for dinner to see how the vibe is at night.
Thank you for stopping by, please come back for more food reviews, travel inspiration, and personal stories!
